As reported by the BBC, there has been an attempt to overthrow the Guinean government and there are proposals that the country may close its borders.

There is a conflict in the narrative, however, as local reports say the attempted coup was foiled by the Presidential Guard.

According to Reuters, several soldiers said on Guinean television that they had dissolved the government.

It is unclear how long the journey to and from the West African country will be interrupted – or whether the information is correct, which may entangle many people.

One of the many stuck in Guinea is Liverpool footballer Keita, who hopes the situation will be resolved soon.

While it pales in comparison, the Reds are on duty in the Premier League next Sunday – they face Leeds United on Elland Road and the 26-year-old will be keen to make sure he is available.

It is unclear when Guinea vs. Morocco will be postponed, but FIFA has released a statement confirming the postponement to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
